Summary
The analysis of isomeric cresols is difficult because of their similar volatilities and high polarities. The situation is specially complicated in the case of industrial synthesisplant samples because of the presence of phenol and of the very high concentration (about 90%) of p-cresol. A gas chromatographic method is described, employing columns packed with Bentone-34 plus Castorwax on diatomaceous supports; the best results are obtained using Chromosorb P AW DMCS. The symmetry of the peaks obtained is excellent for the type of solute.
