Growth of mammalian cells as unattached cultures on nontissue culture plates

  • Published:
Journal of tissue culture methods

Summary

A novel procedure for the growth of mammalian cells unattached on nontissue culture plates is described. This procedure makes use of the fact that mammalian cells do not attach on plastic plates that are not specially treated for tissue culture purposes. This method has the advantages of both the suspension culture and monolayer culture. As in suspension culture, enzyme digestion is not required for cell detachment, and, as culture plates are used, the space requirement is similar to that for monolayer cultures.
