Lifetime effects on the intrinsic and extrinsic excitation in deep core XPS and X-ray absorption spectra

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik B Condensed Matter

Abstract

The lifetime effects of the core hole are taken into account in order to investigate the deep core XPS and X-ray absorption spectra in the theoretical framework developed by the present author. In this method both the intrinsic and extrinsic effects can be naturally interpreted. The present method also allows us to calculate the Auger electron and fluorescent X-ray photon emission intensity in the natural way. On the basis of these formulas we discuss the Auger and fluorescent emission detection method to measure EXAFS and XANES. Comparison is also made with the Dyson orbital (DO) method developed by Pickup. It is explicitly shown that the continuum Dyson orbital\(\tilde f_{\dot k}^ - \) can describe extrinsic inelastic and resonance scattering processes. In the latter process it implicitly includes the contribution from a bound DOg a .
