Conclusions
It has been found that, in contrast to the condensation of phthalonitrile with diamines with pKa > 2.7, the principal products from which are macroheterocycles, reaction of phthalonitrile with diamines with pKa ≤ 2.7 gives linear condensation products of the reactants.
