Abstract
2-(N-Arylaminoethyl)benzimidazoles have been obtained by various methods. The best method is shown to be by reaction of N-aryl-β- alanine imidate ester hydrocnlorides with o-phenylenediamine. It has been found that, in presence of polyphosphoric acid (PPA), N-aryl-β- alanines and their esters give 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-4-oxoquinolines.
