Reaction of 2 -fluoro-2,2-dinitroethylsulfuric acid with α-hydroxycarboxylic acids and some of their derivatives

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The esterification ofβ-fluoro-β,β-dinitro-α-hydroxypropionic acid by 2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethylsulfuric acid results in the formation of an ester; this reaction does not occur with unsubstitutedaα-hydroxycarboxylic acids.

  2. 2.

    The esterification ofα-acetoxy- andα-nitrooxycarboxylic acids by 2-fluoro-2,4-dinitroethylsulfuric acid is accompanied by an ester interchange reaction with the participation of an acetoxy and a nitro group and the formation of 2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl acetate and 2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl nitrate.
