Summary

  1. 1.

The optimum conditions have been found for obtaining 2-methylthiophene in. the reaction of n-pentane with H2S on a chromium-containing catalysts.

  2. 2.

The Cs hydrocarbons of different structure that have been studied in relation to their capacity for undergoing heterocyclization on a Cr-containing catalyst form the following sequence: n-pentane < pent-1-yne < isoaymlenes ⩽ isopentane < 2-methylbut-2-ene. In the formation of methylthiophenes, hydrocarbons with an iso structure possess greater reactivity than hydrocarbons of normal structure.

  3. 3.

In the reaction of n-pentane with H2S, the heterocyclizing properties of rhenium oxide, rhenium sulfide, and mixed rhenium-chromium catalysts are shown. CO2 and N2 affect the selectivity of the catalysts, raising the yield of 2-methylthiophene and of thiophene, respectively.
