Abstract

Herein, an efficient Co@NC/AC-800 catalyst (carbonized at 800 °C) was constructed through a simple impregnation-pyrolysis process using activated carbon as template. The results of catalyst characterization and comparative tests indicated that the larger specific surface area of activated carbon endows the catalyst with better dispersion of active components, and the formation of Co–Nx provides sites with better hydrogenation activity while stabilizing the Co species. Moreover, the prepared catalyst has robust reusability and excellent universality for the reduction of nitroarenes. Thus, this study provides an effective strategy for develop non-noble metal catalysts in the scope of hydrogenation transformation.
