Conclusions

  1. 1.

We studied the thermal isomerization ofα-nitrocinnamic ester, and also its isomerization by treatment with certain polar solvents with a basic character. The composition of the obtained equilibrium mixture of geometric isomers is independent of the method of isomerization.

  2. 2.

The reaction for the nucleophilic addition of methyl alcohol to the Z-isomer ofα-nitrocinnamic ester is accompanied by its isomerization to the E-isomer.
