Conclusions

  1. 1.

Study has been made of the kinetics of propylene epoxidation by ethylbenzene hydroperoxide (EBHP) in the presence of an MO catalyst, measurements being made at temperatures in the 60–120°C range in systems free of product inhibition. Determination has been made of the activation energies for propylene epoxidation by EBHP and for the catalytic breakdown of EBHP, together with the heat of formation of the active catalytic complex.

  2. 2.

The kinetic data suggest that the molybdenum rezinate interacts with the propylene oxide produced in the initial stages of the reaction, forming molybdenum dioxobis(1,2-propanediol) which itself catalyzes the epoxidation.
