Effect of hydroxide precipitation conditions on the mechanical strength of alumina

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

One of the conditions for the formation of mechanically strong alumina is chemical homogeneity of the hydroxide precipitate. The degree of chemical homogeneity (completeness of decomposition of basic aluminum salts) is determined by the pH of the medium and the temperature during precipitation.

  2. 2.

With the same degree of chemical homogeneity of the alumina, the strength of the latter falls with an increase in porosity.

  3. 3.

Optimal conditions are given for the preparation of mechanically strong alumina.
