Spectra and structure of 1,2,3-phosphorus-containing heterosubstituted 1,3-Butadienes

Summary

  1. 1.

    It has been shown spectroscopically that rotational isomerism at the C-P bond and geometric isomerism at the carbon double bond occur in l-alkylthio-2-oxydichlorophosphine-, 1-alkylthio-2-oxydialkoxyphosphineand l-alkoxy-2-dialkyloxyphosphine-3-chlorobutadienes-l,3.

  2. 2.

    In all of the compounds investigated, there is a conjugated system of double carbon-carbon bonds and the grouping -CC1=CH2.

  3. 3.

    The frequencies of the double bonds are reduced considerably because of the conjugation of the π-bonds, the diene grouping, and the P=O bond in the molcule. The RS group has a stronger effect on the frequency of the multiple bonds than does the RO group.
