Plane wave diffraction by a wedge in a magnetoactive plasma under mixed boundary conditions and a “thermodynamic paradox”

Abstract

A rigorous solution is obtained for the problem of plane electromagnetic wave diffraction by a wedge in a magnetoactive plasma. The external permanent magnetic field is applied along an edge; one of the wedge faces is electrically conductive while the other is magnetically conductive. If the primary wave is a surface wave being propagated along the electrically conductive face, then for a no-loss system a so-called “thermodynamic paradox” is possible. Conditions for occurrence of the paradox are in agreement with the plasma parameter domain in which the condition at the edge is spoiled.
