Summary
-
1.
The activities of 14 enzymes for monosaccharide conversion have been determined in up to 11 organs of the crayfish, Orconectes limosus.
-
2.
Transaldolase and the transketolase as enzymes of the hexosemonophosphatepentose pathway in the different organs tested have constant proportions in their activities whereas glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase do not. On the basis of their organ specific proportions it is concluded that antennal gland, testis, and ventral nerve cord have the highest capacities in the oxidative pentose pathway; testis and ventral nerve cord have the highest capacities in nonoxidative conversions of hexose and pentose phosphates.
-
3.
UDPglucose 4-epimerase as an enzyme of galactose metabolism has its highest activity in the intestine; hexose 1-phosphate uridylyltransferase, found only at very low activity values, shows its highest concentrations in gills, integumentary tissues and hepatopancreas.
-
4.
Rather different fructose 1,6-diphosphate/fructose 1-phosphate activity ratios were detected when fructosediphosphate aldolase and ketose 1-phosphate aldolase were determined. According to Lebherz and Rutter (1969), however, it must be supposed, that the differences in FDP/F-1-P ratios for the crayfish tissues studied are due to proteolytic modifications and not to the presence of tissue specific aldolase variants. The conversion of fructose 1,6-diphosphate and fructose 1-phosphate is catalysed with the highest rate in abdominal muscle and heart.
-
5.
Two oxidoreductases, sorbitol dehydrogenase and aldose reductase, were found in the antennal gland. Glucose or galactose dehydrogenase, UDPglucose dehydrogenase as well as the bacterial polyol dehydrogenases mannitol 1-phosphate dehydrogenase and sorbitol 6-phosphate dehydrogenase could not be detected in antennal gland and hepatopancreas.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
