Ultrasonic attenuation studies in molybdenum

  • Published:
Journal of Low Temperature Physics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

The electronic attenuation of longitudinal and shear waves has been measured in both the normal and superconducting states of molybdenum. In all cases the limiting attenuation is an order of magnitude larger than the free-electron prediction. A model based on the tight-binding approximation is proposed to explain these results and the absence of a rapid-fall region in the superconducting shear wave attenuation.
