Influence of the Density and Elastic Modulus of the Components and the Size of the Carbide Particles on the Properties of Hard Alloys

Abstract

A quantitative relation has been established between the phase composition of a hard alloy (the content and composition of the carbide phase and matrix), the size of the carbide particles, and the alloy strength. Increase in the bulk content of the matrix and the alloy strength is noted with increase in density of the carbide phase and with decrease in the matrix density. With fixed matrix content, alloys with greater elastic modulus are stronger.
