Abstract
Laser spectroscopy is an indispensable tool in radioactive ion beam facilities. It is used for the study of the nuclear structure of radioactive isotopes, as well as for the production and purification of these radioactive beams. Over the years, a rich dataset of electromagnetic moments, nuclear spins, and changes in the mean-square charge radii of the nuclear ground states and long-lived nuclear isomers has been collected. In addition to these properties commonly measured with laser spectroscopy techniques, this technique has been used for the discovery of new isomers as well. In this work, we give a short overview of the laser spectroscopy of nuclear isomers and illustrate how these measurements have so far contributed to deepening our knowledge of nuclear structure.
