Abstract
The presence and content of phthalates (dibutyl phthalate, benzyl butyl phthalate, di-n-octyl phthalate and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate) and phenolic acids in mushy juice of peach and apple packaged in PET packaging were examined. The idea was to examine the possible dependence between the content of phthalates and phenolic acids and to determine the content of one based on the content of the other. Two out of four tested phthalates were found and that dibutyl phthalate in a concentration from 31.08 to 94.78 and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, from 46.80 to 76.72 µg/L. During storage, three periods of changing of the content of phthalates was discerned: the first until the 50th day, the second, from the 50th to the 255th day and the third one, from the 255th to the 330th day. The most of the content of these two phthalates were released for the first 50 days: 32.8% of dibutyl and 58.7% of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate and the equations for calculating the content of dibutyl and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate and each period separately, depending on the numbers of days, were obtained. The gallic, chlorogenic, neochlorogenic, protocatechuic and syringic acid were detected in all samples, and correlations showed that by increasing the content of total phenolic acids, (by extraction from the mushy content) the content of dibutyl phthalate also increases (by the extraction from the PET packaging). Finally, the equations of dependence of the content of phthalates on the content of total phenolic acids and total phenolics were obtained. The investigations were carried out on mushy juice of peach and apple and the application of the obtained equations may be limited to clear and juices obtained from other types of fruits, so the analogical investigations on the other kinds of juices in future are needed.
