Abstract

In this paper we are going to propose a novel optical structure that can work as an optical combined half adder/subtractor. The proposed structure has 3 output ports. O1 is the common output port for adder and subtractor which can work as the sum/difference port of the proposed structure. O2 is the carry port of the optical adder and O3 is the borrow port of the optical subtractor. The working mechanism of the proposed structure is based on threshold switching, therefore three nonlinear ring resonators were combined with some optical waveguides. The maximum rise time of the proposed structure is 3 ps.
