Zusammenfassung

Eine sichere und wirksame Arzneimittelanwendung bei Kindern und Jugendlichen erfordert fundierte Kenntnisse zur Bedeutung der Ontogenese bei der Aufnahme, Verteilung, Verstoffwechselung, Ausscheidung und Wirkung von Arzneimitteln. Als oberstes Prinzip muss beachtet werden, dass Kinder nicht als kleine Erwachsene betrachtet werden können. Obwohl dieser Sachverhalt schon zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts offenkundig war, ist auch heute noch dieser Aspekt bei der Arzneimitteltherapie im Kindesalter zu wenig oder manchmal überhaupt nicht berücksichtigt.
