Abstract
Application of immobilized enzyme in the bioreactor is one field that has gained significant attention in the recent past. Immobilized enzymes are used both in the batch mode as well as in the continuous mode. The commonly used wastewater treatment reactors are stirred tank reactor (STR), fluidized bed reactor (FBR), packed bed reactor (PBR), enzyme-immobilized membrane bioreactor (EMBR) etc. This chapter provides an insight into types of enzymes used for wastewater treatment, their immobilization of solid support, and recent developments in types of reactors used for treating the wastewater (both as a model mixture as well as real waste effluents) through some examples.
