Zusammenfassung

Auffälligkeiten des Essverhaltens finden sich bei einer Vielzahl von psychischen und medizinischen Erkrankungen. Die Besonderheiten bei der Essstörung sind, dass restriktives Essverhalten instrumentell eingesetzt wird, um Gewicht und Figur zu beeinflussen und durch Hungern, Essanfälle und Erbrechen emotionale Zustände zu beeinflussen (Anorexia nervosa und Bulimia nervosa). Charakteristisch für Essstörung ist ein Teufelskreis zwischen Nahrungsrestriktion und Kontrollverlust in Form von Essanfällen. Langfristig können sich die Essanfälle dann auch verselbstständigen (Binge-Eating-Störung).
