About the editors

Dr. Ursula Schmidt-Erfurth is Professor and Chair of the University Eye Hospital in Vienna, Austria. She is a very well-known expert in the field of Ophthalmology and received several Awards, such as the Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Johnson Award for Macular Research from the University of Washington and the Research Award by the German Ophthalmological Society.

Dr. George A. Williams is a Clinical Professor of Biomedical Sciences at The Eye Research Institute of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. He is a highly respected physician in the medical community and has been named to America's Who's Who in Medicine, The Best Doctors in America, and The Best Doctors in the Midwest. Dr. Williams actively contributes to the literature in the vitreoretinal community having authored or co-authored over one hundred publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, book chapters, and publications from national clinical trials. He is currently the Principal Investigator of several research trials actively recruiting patients at William Beaumont Hospital and continues to be involved in studies sponsored by the National Eye Institute and National Institute of Health. Dr. Williams is an internationally recognized speaker in the vitreoretinal field and has been President of both the Vitreous Society and Michigan Ophthalmological Society. He serves as Chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Committee for retinal diseases and is a member of the Health Policy Committee. He is an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Medical Association, Retina Society and Macula Society.
