Abstract

The size effects during the oxidation-reduction treatment (ORT) of Co nanoparticles in the Co/SiO2 catalyst were studied. The results of ORT on Co nanoparticles depended on the initial size distribution of nanoparticles; for small nanoparticles, ORT did not lead to further decrease in size. (The threshold size was obviously less than 10–15 nm.) The critical size of Co particles depended on the conditions of oxidation and reduction, i.e., the heating rate, the composition of the gas mixture, etc.
