Chromosome-like particles during meiosis in fission yeast

Summary

Chromosome-like structures were observed in spheroplasts ofSchizosaccharomyces pombe shortly before, or after the first meiotic division. From the work at hand, a number of six is considered to be the best estimate of a haploid set of chromosomes in this yeast.
