Abstract
This article argues that there is no typical Appalachian experience or community. There is more cultural diversity and global interchange in this region of the U.S. than appears in popular representations of “isolated” Appalachians, which are ironic because of the region’s having been so central to the global extractive economy for centuries. Some pedagogical resources are provided to encourage or contribute to a broader perspective on the possibilities and knowledge centered in rural communities, with Appalachian examples.

Unos recursos para servir a la educación crítica científica en la región rural de los Apalaches. Ann Kingsolver. El argumento de este artículo es que no haya una experiencia y una comunidad típica de los Apalaches. Hay más diversidad cultural y más intercambio global en esta región de los EEUU de lo que aparezca en las representaciones populares de la gente “aislada” de los Apalaches, ironicamente por haber estado tan central en la economía de la extracción mundial hace siglos. Se incluyen unos recursos pedagógicos para alentar a una perspectiva más amplia de las posibilidades y conocimiento que se quedan en las comunidades rurales, con ejemplos de los Apalaches.
