Abstract

Eales’ disease is an idiopathic retinal periphlebitis that primarily affects the peripheral retina in young adults. The disease is more commonly seen in the Indian subcontinent. Eales’ disease is characterized by retinal periphlebitis, peripheral retinal ischemia and neovascularization. Visual loss is characteristically caused by recurrent vitreous hemorrhage. Corticosteroids remain the main stage of treatment during the inflammatory stage. Laser photocoagulation and anti-VEGF therapy is effective in the proliferative stage. Vitreoretinal surgery is helpful in management of non-resolving vitreous hemorrhage and complications.
