Abstract
Esophagectomy and the complete spectrum of treatment of esophageal cancer are unanimously considered to be complex, with very high risks of treatment-related complications. Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a highly aggressive disease that is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage. Malnutrition, low performance status, and cachexia are frequently seen in these patients at diagnosis.
