Zusammenfassung
Die meisten Organe können einen vorübergehenden Versorgungsausfall entweder als Unterbrechung der Durchblutung oder als Substratmangel tolerieren. Im Gegensatz hierzu stehen dem Gehirn jedoch keine nennenswerten Substratreserven zur Verfügung. Es ist daher nicht in der Lage, auch nur kurze Unterbrechungen seiner Blut- und Substratversorgung unbeschädigt zu überstehen.
