Zusammenfassung
Die 1938 von Cerletti und Bini eingeführte Elektrokrampftherapie (EKT) gehörte neben der 1933 von Sakel nahezu parallel entwickelten Insulin-Koma-Behandlung und der Somnifen-Schlafkur von Klaesi im Jahr 1922 zu den ersten wirksamen somatischen Therapieverfahren der endogenen Psychosen und wurde erst mit der Entwicklung der Neuroleptika und trizyklischen Antidepressiva in den 50er-Jahren in ihrer Indikation und Anwendung relativiert.
