Zusammenfassung
Erfolgreiche Kunstgelenkimplantationen in größerem Umfang sind erst in den 1960er Jahren zu verzeichnen. Diese sind zunächst in der Hüftgelenksendoprothetik entstanden und mit zwei entscheidenden Entwicklungen verbunden. Einmal ist dies die Einführung des Methylmethacrylats zur Prothesenfixation und zum anderen ist es die Verwendung von Polyaethylen als Werkstoff für die Gleitpaarung. Insbesondere aus diesen Gründen ist die Historie der Ellenbogenalloarthroplastik eng mit der Entwicklung der Endoprothetik im allgemeinen verknüpft. Sie weist aber, wie im Folgenden darzustellen sein wird, durchaus eine Reihe von Besonderheiten auf.
