Zentrale vestibuläre Schwindelformen entstehen durch Läsionen entlang der vestibulären Verbindungen im Hirnstamm, von den Vestibulariskernen in der Medulla oblongata zu den okulomotorischen Kernen und Integrationszentren im rostralen Mittelhirn sowie zum Vestibulozerebellum, Thalamus und vestibulären Kortex im temporoparietalen Großhirn (Brandt u. Dieterich 1995; Baier et al. 2008, 2009.
