Abstract
The actual trend toward anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructive techniques is related to unsatisfactory results of primary repairs, but there is clear evidence that in some cases the ACL can be repaired. We report on ten selected patients with proximal ACL lesions and good ligament tissue. The ACL lesion was addressed with a trans-osseous repair and a cortical fixation. At a mean follow-up of 25 months, all the patients had returned to sport at the same pre-injury level. Knee function was restored to normal or nearly normal in all the cases. There were no operative complications in this series. In selected cases, ACL repair is a reliable option for the restoration of knee stability and function.
