Zusammenfassung
Die Positive Psychologie hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, das zu erforschen und zu kultivieren, was das Leben besonders lebenswert macht, z. B. Glück, Wohlbefinden, Zufriedenheit, Tugenden, Charakterstärken und Talente. Es ist keine neue Erkenntnis, dass es in der Psychologie um mehr geht als »nur« um die Wiederherstellung eines neutralen Zustandes für Menschen, die sich in psychischen Krisen befinden. Schon früh wurde in der Philosophie dem Streben nach Glück und der Frage, wie dieses erreicht und aufrechterhalten werden kann, viel Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Hedonismus, aber auch Eudämonie, wurden als Prinzipien beschrieben, die zu einem guten Leben führen – entweder im Streben nach Maximierung von Vergnügungen (bzw. Reduktion von Schmerzen) oder einem tugendhaften Leben (Identifikation und Kultivierung eigener Tugenden und ein Leben im Einklang mit diesen).
