Abstract

■ Surgical management of uveitic macular complications utilizes standard vitreoretinal surgical techniques.

■ Medical management of uveitic macular complications utilizes intraocular corticosteroids and anti-angiogenic factors in common use for other diseases.

■ Either medical or surgical management of posterior segment complications requires control of uveitis. Systemic corticosteroids or immunosuppression without surgery can be effective treatment for macular complications.

■ Imaging with OCT provides more useful information than fluorescein angiography in assessing uveitic macular disease.

■ Factors predictive of surgical success in macular edema are unknown, but probably relate to anatomic features such as status of posterior hyaloid, configuration of epiretinal membranes, and vitreomacular traction.
