Zusammenfassung
Das Konzept Organisationaler Kompetenz hat sich im Wesentlichen im Kontext des strategischen Managements entwickelt. Es ist theoretisch eingebettet in den Ressourcenbasierten Ansatz (RBV), der vorteilhafte Wettbewerbspositionen von Unternehmen primär auf die spezielle Qualität und Ausstattung firmenspezifischer Ressourcenbündel zurückführt (Penrose, E. 1959; Amit, R.; Schoemaker, P. J. H. 1993). Signifikante Ressourcenheterogenität entsteht vor allem dort, wo Faktormärkte versagen (vgl. Barney, J. B. 1991), d.h. also dort, wo derartige Ressourcen auf den Faktormärkten nicht verfügbar sind und somit selbst erzeugt werden müssen. Ressourcenbündelungen, die schließlich zu strategischen Wettbewerbsvorteilen werden, entwickeln sich vor allem in den Tiefenstrukturen von Unternehmen, also in den Praktiken, Routinen, Kulturen usw. und werden schließlich — so die These — zu „idiosynkratischen Kompetenzen“ (Lado, A. A. et al. 1992, S. 80f.). Von besonderem Interesse sind dabei diejenigen Kompetenzen, die aufgrund ihres komplexen, teilweise impliziten und vor allem gewachsenen Charakters nur schwer imitierbar sind und deshalb als Basis für den Aufbau nachhaltiger Wettbewerbsvorteile dienen können (Barney, J. B. 1991, Dierickx, I.; Cool, K. 1989; Lippman, S. A.; Rumelt, R. P. 1982; Wernerfeit, B. 1984). Die historischen Wurzeln dieser Sichtweise reichen zurück in die 1950er Jahre; schon damals prägte Selznick den Begriff der „distinctive competencies“, um damit unternehmensspezifische Fähigkeitspotenziale zu beschreiben (Selznick, P. 1957).
