Abstract

Airway reconstruction presents many challenges to the anesthesia team. A variety of factors must be considered when determining the anesthetic plan for these patients. One of the unique considerations in open airway surgery is the fact that the surgeon and the anesthesia provider jointly manage the airway. As such, collaboration and communication between the surgeon and anesthetist are essential. In this chapter, we will discuss preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative considerations for sedation, pain control, and airway management.
