Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a basic introduction to biofeedback in general and as it relates to the treatment of excessive stress. Biofeedback may be thought of as a unique “high technology” therapy that may be used to: (1) engender a relaxation response, thus treating the stress response itself, or (2) alter target-organ activity, thus treating the symptoms of excessive stress arousal.
