Abstract

A complex of experimental investigation of geometric parameters of the zone of the tool contact with the workpiece material has been carried out. The shrinkage of chips, cutting forces and temperature on the rake face of a tool equipped with cBN-based polycrystalline superhard material in fine turning of hardened steel have been defined. Normal and shear stresses at the region of the tool contact with chips have been assessed. It has been shown that the regions of plastic and elastic contacts account, respectively, for 70 and 30% of normal force acting on the cutter rake face.
