Abstract
Interfirm networks are considered a flexible organizational form, which allows to quickly responding to changing technological and market uncertainties. Despite of that, it remains largely unclear how the development of networks relates to perceived uncertainties by the network members. Based on the investigation of a SAP partner network, which has been established to address the uncertainties resulting from cloud computing, we show how interfirm networks contribute on the one hand to absorb environmental uncertainty, on the other hand, however, induce systemic uncertainty themselves. Contrary to our expectations, not only the perception of very high, but also of very low uncertainty challenges the organizational form “network”.
