Abstract

The spectral method for estimating the Q-factor of the medium, Q P , from the regional P-waves is applied for analyzing the earthquakes in Central Asia. For this purpose, the waveforms from the earthquakes in Iran recorded by the ASF station in Jordan and EIL station in Israel are analyzed. The Q P factor is estimated from the amplitudes of the regional P-waves provided in the REB bulletin of the International Data Center in Vienna. The calculations of Q P are conducted with the use of the Quality program for the research analysis. The aim of the study is to explore the applicability of this method for estimating Q P in the regions with different propagation conditions of seismic signals. It is shown that the suggested method is efficient for estimating the Q factor in the regions that differ by the signal propagation conditions.
