Abstract
THE influence of molecular structure of a solute on its permeation through biological membranes has been evaluated by various methods1–4. For permeation of a solute across a membrane of thickness, h, the permeability coefficient, P, can be expressed in terms of the membrane–solution partition coefficient (Km) and the diffusion coefficient in the membrane (D): P=KmD/h (1)
