Abstract

UNTIL recently, it was accepted that the molar absorbance coefficient of rhodopsin, εrh, was no less than 41,000 (refs. 1–4). In 1968, however, Heller5 obtained a value of 23,100 by measuring the amount of protein in purified samples of rhodopsin and assuming a protein molecular weight of 26,400.
