Abstract

DURING a fluorescent immuno-histological investigation of bone marrow, we observed that certain granulocytes of the unaltered control series showed intense yellow autofluorescence of their granules instead of the expected light yellow–green autofluorescence of cytoplasm1. These cells were identified as eosinophils by Wright's stain and phase contrast microscopy. We considered this finding an original observation until we recently found a previous reference2. Our report is intended to confirm the reference and quantitate the autofluorescence with reference to individual patients.
