Abstract
IN the course of experiments on the amino-acid composition of rumen Protozoa, an unknown ninhydrin-positive substance was found by paper chromatography to be present in acid hydrolysates of the ether-ethanol soluble fraction of Protozoa. The substance was isolated in crystalline form and identified as 2-amino-ethane phosphonic acid, H2N·CH2·CH2·PO(OH)2, (synthesized by Finkelstein1, Kosolapoff2, Hackspill3 and Chavane4).
