Abstract

IN the course of an investigation of high-current arcs between solid electrodes in vacuum, an empirical relationship between arcing voltage and physical properties of the cathode material has been found. Certain exceptions are significant because, except for carbon, they are all ferromagnetic metals or alloys containing a ferromagnetic metal.
