Abstract
Iron-doped silica samples have been prepared by the sol–gel technique aiming to investigate their optical absorption and emission properties as well as their thermoluminescence response to ultraviolet and x-ray radiation for dosimetry purposes. A remarkably sharp thermoluminescence peak was observed at around 190°C for samples exposed to x-ray radiation, whereas those exposed to ultraviolet light did not show any significant emission for temperatures up to 430°C.
