Abstract

Towards a new humanism: the African perspective – The new integrated holistic humanism is a construct based on a number of frameworks with shared foundations. This article is dedicated to the African perspective, which is simply Africa’s contribution to a universal civilisation based on humanistic values that are preserved and constantly rediscovered. The central hypothesis is one of fusion and cross-fertilisation which have followed a variety of paths. The first stage is that of affirming and reclaiming the black identity, and the second is the melding of cultural identities embodied in pan-Africanism, which is itself a bridge to pan-humanism. Both are the result of contact with western civilisation and culture through the medium of colonialism, as a form of domination, assimilation or subordination. They are marked by this proximity, and demand more detailed and endogenous reflection that incorporates precolonial secular values and practices. This is the premise on which the African renaissance is built, and each of its currents has its own ideologues, poets, eulogists and political champions. This analysis indicates that no specific national culture or civilisation can be regarded as the benchmark of human being and becoming, even though everyone is entitled to affirm their specific contribution and perspective.

Le nouvel humanisme holistique intégré est une construction reposant sur plusieurs charpentes ayant des fondements partagés. Cet article est dédié à la perspective africaine qui n’est autre que la contribution africaine à une civilisation de l’universel fondée sur des valeurs caractérisant une humanité à préserver et à redécouvrir constamment. L’hypothèse centrale est celle d’une fusion et d’un métissage qui suivent plusieurs cheminements. La première étape est celle de l’affirmation et de la revendication identitaire incarnée par la négritude. La seconde étape est la construction d’un espace de proximité culturelle et identitaire incarnée dans le panafricanisme comme un pont vers le pan-humanisme. Ces deux étapes naissent du contact avec la civilisation et la culture occidentales par la médiation de la colonisation, comme forme de domination et d’assimilation ou de subordination. Elles sont donc marquées par cette confrontation et nécessitent une réflexion plus approfondie et plus endogène englobant les valeurs et pratiques séculaires précoloniales. C’est à cela que s’attelle la renaissance africaine. Chacun de ces courants a eu ses idéologues, ses poètes et chantres et ses champions politiques. Il ressort de cette analyse qu’aucune culture nationale, aucune civilisation particulière ne peut ni ne doit décerner l’étalon de l’être et du devenir humain, même si chacune est en droit de revendiquer et d’affirmer sa contribution, sa perspective.
