Physicomechanical Properties of Shellac Films Grafted by Using Ultraviolet Irradiation

  • Published:
Mechanics of Composite Materials Aims and scope

The physicomechanical properties of films prepared by casting mixtures of shellac with a 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate monomer (HM) of various concentrations (0, 1, 3, 5, and 7%) were investigated. The process of formation of a cross-linked structure of the films was carried out by using ultraviolet irradiation. The highest strength showed the shellac films containing 3% HM, which by 37% exceeded that of pure shellac ones exposed to ultraviolet irradiation.
