Summary
The medical care for adopted children becomes visible especially at arrival and with regard to growth and puberty. At arrival, many children have an infectious disease or carry an infectious organism with them. Frequently, puberty starts at an early age, compromising adult height. In this article a Dutch study is summarised in which early puberty was treated with gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRH-a) alone or in combination with human growth hormone. Not only the auxological aspects are presented, but data on the motivation of parents and child, and on the psychological study as well.
Samenvatting
De medische zorg voor uit het buitenland geadopteerde kinderen wordt onder andere zichtbaar bij aankomst en met betrekking tot groei en puberteit. Bij aankomst spelen vooral infectieproblemen een rol. De puberteitsontwikkeling begint bij adoptiekinderen vaak vroeg. Dit kan de uiteindelijke lengte negatief beïnvloeden. In dit artikel wordt een Nederlandse studie samengevat waarin vroege puberteit is behandeld met gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-agonisten, al dan niet gecombineerd met recombinant groeihormoon. Behalve aspecten van groei komen ook de studieonderdelen motivatie van ouders en kind en het psychologisch onderzoek aan bod.
